Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

From what I can see you have nice Blue Ameraucanas. The girls (the one named Lavender especially) has some nice edging to her hackle feathers... Blue Ameraucanas lack the lacing on the edges of their feathers and that is something that needs to be improved upon. Do you have blacks to breed them with and have you hatched from this group yet? I want to see splash babies!

Have to agree on the color here. The girls are nice. Hard to tell on type on the boy- was your roo in a situation where he was being "ridden" by another roo?

Thanks for your comments I appreciate any help you can give us.
The answers to your questions:
No these are the only Ams we own so no blacks. Do we need them?
We have eggs in the incubator now with a hatch date at the end of the month. I will post pics when they hatch. You see the barnyard mix in the pics will the cross of the Blue Am roo and them produce a EE?
I bought them around late Sept. early Oct. he is the only roo we have so if he was ridden I have never seen it. Why do you ask?
Would more pics help? If so what specifically would you want to see?

That's awesome! How many eggs are cooking in the bator?

I've got 21 in there - 3 of which are likely duds and a couple that I couldn't see into so at all - 7 of pips&peeps eggs and it was 2 of these that I couldn't see into

They are all VERY well travelled eggs so I'm thrilled that any are hatching!!

The Black Ameraucana is zipping as I write this ...

You don't need to get any blacks- you'll hatch some out when you breed the blues together. But if you want more diversity- find some unrelated ones. Black can supposedly help darken up blue and improve lacing. You can keep your barnyard mix in with them and hatch EEs. I keep lots of other breeds (females only) in with my Ams and only hatch the blue eggs if I want pures. But then I always have some EE eggs too if anybody wants some to hatch or just make the egg basket more colorful.
I just asked about the roo becuase his back looks a little worn. It looks like a temporary thing.

I'm a little jealous.

I haven't had the pleasure of hatching since this summer. DH really doesn't want me to hatch during the winter...more like brood during the winter, because we use our den to do so...chicken dust in the house is no fun. However, I gave my word to a friend that I would join in the New Year's hatchalong. I want to try to only set 5 eggs! How pathetic is that? 5 eggs in a Brinsea 380!

It will take all willpower not to fill that bator up.

Be sure to post pics of your chickies when you get the chance.

Nice pictures, Jeremy! I have 3 pullets and 1 cockerel (Wheaties) that jump the fence from the layers coop EVERY day, to go back to their old home. My other Wheaties stay in the layers coop without complaining, why can't these?

Hey BYC world! I'm new to Ameraucanas but have admired them for years. I hatched these guys pictured below. They are about 4 and half months old here. I want to breed them in a way that helps the breed. I have 3 roosters and 8 hens. I got my birds from two different sources. How are they looking so far?
