Last spring, I purchased wheaten Ameraucana eggs from a breeder and only one bird hatched. What came out of the egg was not a wheaten Ameraucana. I posted photos on this thread, and everyone agreed that either the breeder's Maran's rooster jumped into the pen, or there was some other strange accident.
She finally laid an egg now, and it is the most beautiful blue, which makes me think she did not cross with the Marans. While I really do not know anything about breeding, I did read something about an erminett gene on the ABC forum. It says one copy results in spotted legs (which mine has). Can this gene be hiding in someone's breeding stock and then suddenly make an appearance? I understand that my bird is considered an EE, and that she is not suitable for breeding Ameraucanas. I am just trying to figure out where this strange bird came from.
