Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

ok, so I went and got these two Ameraucanas from a breeder friend of mine. She doesn't breed Ameraucanas so she ordered some hatching eggs from another breeder. She ordered Wheaten eggs. She obviously didn't get Wheaten chicks. (They should have been light yellowish chicks, right) Anyway, I wondered if any of you could tell me what these are. They looked more like Silvers. They are 1 week old.

Any comments? And, I am not breeding these girls....just want them for the blue eggs!

Yea, that's what we decided. The breeder she got them from usually had excellent birds. Wonder what happened. Like I said, I only wanted blue egg layers for my own use. I just love the colors. In fact, I had never seen a real live blue egg until yesterday when I went to my friends house and she had one and gave it to me. I was like a kid in a candy store and I'm 60!!!! hahaha! So, I am happy anyway!

Yea, that's what we decided. The breeder she got them from usually had excellent birds. Wonder what happened. Like I said, I only wanted blue egg layers for my own use. I just love the colors. In fact, I had never seen a real live blue egg until yesterday when I went to my friends house and she had one and gave it to me. I was like a kid in a candy store and I'm 60!!!! hahaha! So, I am happy anyway!

I get excited about blue eggs, too, but olive eggs are my favorite!

My husband has been awesome and very tolerant of my slightly obsessive hobby of raising chickens. He has never really had an affinity for the birds, but recently became quite smitten with a young Wheaten Ameraucana pullet.

Because we have had so many hawks around lately, we have kept our flock in a covered run if we are not home, but we let them out to forage when we are present. My teenage son was out with them yesterday when a hawk attacked and killed the Wheaten pullet. I can't believe it was so brazen as to attack one of the birds with a human present!

My husband is very sad about his little pullet and would like a few more like her. She hatched from a bonus egg when I ordered eggs of a different breed. Does anyone happen to have a few hatching eggs or chicks that I could purchase and have shipped?

Sorry for your loss, Brandy. I've had losses to predators this year too. Everybody and everything wants to eat chickens, it seems.

I hope you are able to find a nice replacement (or two or three or four!) for your hubby. Nothing like the anticipation of hatching and chicks to cure what ails us!!

Have you tried the ABC site? They have pics of chicks, bantams and LF.
