These are my girls. I have a white one too that was being shy today.

Oh my! Your girls are beautiful! Such gorgeous coloring. I love the look she is giving in this picture. They do look like they are Easter Eggers to me, which are a mix of Ameraucana and some different breeds. They are great birds with good temperaments, and generally speaking, they're proficient layers of beautifully colored eggs.

But as for the breed of your birds, please don't take my opinion as fact, as I'm no expert on breeds.

[Chicken Tenders]

Hello everyone. I am considering purchasing one of these wheaten roos and would like your opinion. They are bros, top is SQ, bottom is not. Top has broader body, bottom has better color. I've included pics of my gals. Just trying to pair them for this spring.

I can tell you right now that the top bird is not SQ.........he is too lanky, has a tall thin body, and does not have proper tail carriage. His tail feathering is too long or too high arched. He does however have good coloring in the hackle and saddle area. If you had the coloring of the first rooster on the body of the second rooster you'd be in business.
If I were choosing, from the two, I would choose the stockier rooster in the second picture. He has a better body type and does have proper tail carriage but his hackle feathering is not clear. This is no biggy, you can work with breeding out a future generation breeding rooster for your line. Just select for clearer hackles from the stock that you raise from the birds you acquire.

I have some beautiful Blue Wheaten roosters from a local, great breeder. As I consider breeding them, I have a couple of questions about standards. I understand that the white fluff at the tail is unavoidable, right? And that it possibly molts out of them. Just double checking about that.

Second, as I look at their chests, they aren't solid blue. One has just one red feather, the second is pretty nicely blue, the other has red veins in the middle of each blue feather. Is any of this red something I should be wary about? Is some of it, like the red veins, something most breeders like to see?
