Are ameraucanas typically broody?
I have a pullet hatched at the end of last summer that has been on the nest for two days. She is showing all the symptoms of being broody (growling, fluffing out, on the nest day and night). I thought ameraucanas were typically not broody.
If it helps, this pullet is from Pips&Peeps. Jean, are your girls the broody type?
She's black out of BBS eggs I bought last summer. I thought maybe she was just confused, but she is very growly and didn't budge out of the hen despite my rummaging about under her for eggs. Usually when I try to touch them they run away screaming. Silly girls.
Jean, I candled tonight and have a ton of babies forming! I'd say all but 5 were very easy to see veins in . 3 looked doubtful, and 2 had to dark of shells. Just amazes me that they can make it from Wa to Pa, and that that many are developing...
Is anyone going to the Ameraucana Meet in Uniontown, Pa? It's on April 18th...
I have 8 of Jean's BBS eggs in my bator right now, too. As of last night, it looked like I have 6 developing. I thought I saw veining in all 8 initially, but may have been wrong about 2? That, or they stopped at some point. I am NO expert, that's for sure, so who knows what will happen next Friday. Can hardly believe they will be here so soon!
And FLF, I think Jean's excellent packing has a lot do to with why our eggs are doing so well. She's awesome
This chick is 2 days old here. What color do you think it is? I hatched two of these from onthespot.
She said they were from a ameraucana splash roo and white hen.
You can also see the fluffy butt from one of the BCM's I also got from onthespot.
That alone is worth recommending someone for-I cringe to think of all the eggs I hatched to get started..ok, emphasis on EGGS THAT DIDNT HATCH!!!
and then you add in that Jean's will have a super chance of meeting the SOP and good egg color "cause you know she culls hard for quality.

I agree. I got the best hatch rates from Jean's eggs too! Her packing was excellent!
