Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I bought some Blue Wheaten Ameraucana hatching eggs from a BYC member, and between awful shipping and incubator troubles, I ended up with one lone baby. Of course, I knew he was a cockerel right away--huge comb right out of the egg! I bought him some Brahmas as companions. As he's grown up, his coloring just doesn't look right to me. Isn't he supposed to be sort of red/mahogany in the hackles? Is this blonde mane something that can happen in tainted stock, kind of like gold leakage? I will try to get a better photo over the next few days. I paid so much for pure eggs, and to have him be yet another EE (I have about 40 as my layers) would be pretty frustrating.

Sorry

That doesn't look right to me either.

I've had a few come out with some blonde hackles and saddles. It is a weird gene that pops out every once in a while. It dilutes the red to blonde. Please let me know where you got the hatching eggs through pm.

Would a six and a half month old wheaten Ameraucana be old enough to show? I want to show them at the Ohio National but I'm not sure if that's old enough. I know Brahmas need to be older but not sure on these guys.

I have his email addy, he doesn't have a website that I can find, but I got some drop dead gorgeous Lavs, BBs and Blacks from him this year and he and his wife are just super nice. Let me find it for you. If you get your order in now, you may get in on one of his early hatches for next season.

Here is his email addy: [email protected]
If you contact them, they'll send you a list of breeds, varieties and prices. I ordered 15 chicks from him last season and I think it came out to about $148. I ended up having one DOA which he sent me a check for (even refunded the shipping for that chick). I had three that I had to cull for color leakage (but that's common) and one that died of Pit Bull trauma. So I ended up with eleven very show worthy adult birds for $138 and you can't beat that. Alternatively, I got some very nice ameraucanas from thefancychick.com but I don't know if she's still selling ams.

Ok thanks! Also I was lucky lucky and got some shaffer babies from some eggs we got Harry this spring...theya rent laying yet but wow wow there are some nice birds out there! He sent 19 eggs and I hatched out 16 babies so we are just thrilled. I would like to add in some nice different lines and we can seem to get decent wheatens with out something happening! Grrr... ( opossum) so it would be nice to see if they are close enough to drive to.

Where in Texas? My one know? I indirectly have some smith lines in my black ams...would love to get some wheatens. And more of everything he has! Lol

Gainseville. I have some wheaten cockerels from Paul Smith that will be leaving here either to freezer camp or to a breeder if they are worthy. Are you interested in cockerels?
