Well I have been getting a lot of odd balls from some PURE blacks that I had acquired plus a black splits started to throw some odd balls . Mostly were mottled colored which is recessive.

I was wondering if mine had some quirky genetics. Who knew chickens were so complex!

Is this just juvenile feathering Harry? I had a pullet in 2010 that was quite mottled as a juvenile and lost all of it by the final juvenile molt.

How is the leg color?

No, they're very pale pearly color with small black dots in a line. The blue hen has the same black dots but does have the slate gray legs.
Haven't heard anything from MPC yet.

With the color of the legs and feathers being "off" I would guess you have an Easter Egger (an Ameraucana mix). I have no experience with MPC, but in general any "Americana" or other spelling purchased from a hatchery is going to be an EE no matter how they word it. If they claim some have beards and some do not, you are even more sure they are EEs. Good quality Ameraucanas should have two muff/beard genes and should always pass them on to both male and female offspring. The only way you lose the beard is if it has been outcrossed at some point. If as chicks they had any kind of chipmunk pattern that also usually indicates EEs. Hope this helps you. But you have some pretty eggs to look forward to!

With the spotted legs I would say the mottled gene is involved. It affects black/slate in the legs also.Nice backyard layers but not show stock.EE I would say.Sounds like you only wanted pullets for eggs.So it sounds like you got blue egg layers no matter what they are called.I am sure you will enjoy them. They will probably lay better than show stock.
