Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I like this bird
She has very feminine curves. I love her top line to just where her tail starts. It is a little too sharp of a curve..love her facial expression. She looks to have a nice beard and muffs. Nice front on her. She looks small. How much does she weigh? Love her wings. She has Ok lacing. I would use this bird in my breeding program and even show her if she is large enough.
I'm not sure which blue the picture was of since I have 2. It's dark out there and hard to tell. One weighs 3.75pounds and then other is 3.94lbs.

Has anyone ever tested the theory that round eggs hatch out girls and pointy egg hatch out boys?

Yes, I have - doesn't work. I ONLY set round eggs - and I got half girls and half boys. However, since the MOTHER determines the sex I do have one hen that gave me 4 girls out of 4 eggs - but one of hers was pointy so it doesn't work the other way either (broody set, not planned, I would not have set that egg).

My first blue egg!!!! It weighed 44 grams. The brown eggs are from my bantams--seven Silkies, one Cochin and one Plymouth Rock. The bantam crew gave me seven eggs yesterday. The Ameraucana pullet is 6.5 months old. I think it is the lavender pullet--she is the one who has squatted for the cockerels and has the reddest face.

if that worked I would need to cull some hens. I have some that ONLY lay LONG pointy eggs so that would mean I would only get roos from her.

Alrighty, I got Joe weighed in at 5.1lb and took this head shot (on my phone) since I had hold of him
400

He free ranges about 30mins a day, supervised. Way too many foxes around here :-( maybe ill buy him some mealworms or something. He actually did feel a touch under where he should be (not by the standard but by his breastbone)
