Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Last Week (or was it 2 weeks ago now? I think it was two...) Two weeks ago we got our first Ameraucanas. Mom bought a pair of Point of Lay Pullets. Less than 8 hours later, she was cleaning the coop, and one of them got out, running between the barn stalls and the wall of the barn!! The other was sleeping on the roosts. Mom named them Themla and Louise.
When I came home, we went to another place near where I live, to a guy who sells chickens, and bought a bunch of show Chickens. Bantams, a Polish, and 4 Show Quality Ameraucanas!! :) I named those 4, Harebell, Maiden, Sorrel, and Mariposa. :) (All my poultry names in 2014 revolve around Wildlfowers!)

Here's some pics of my new girls!!
Thelma.

Maiden
Bell

Bell. And yes that is my nose and eyeball. LOL.
Mariposa (Darker blackish) Sorrel (Sparrow patterned almost) and Bell. And my Polish pullet, Daisy, standing in front of everyone. LOL.

Mariposa, Sorrel and Bell again.
Maiden is relatively camera shy. LOL. Thus the "shy maiden" name. ;)

Louise (Front) and Thelma (Back). :)

@chickee may be close to you - not totally sure. She has beautiful stock!

we just got these 2 from friends of ours, they called them EE's and Ameraucana'sbut they look different then the ones Im looking at on here. What dose every one else think?
A lot of people don't know the difference. I didn't until the people here educated me. This blog has a simple explanation that I like. There are those who can find faults with her explanation but I like the pictures she uses and think it covers the basics. http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html

Hello 3 little roos,

Recently, I purchased blue wheaten chicks from " Chickee" and, couldn't be happier. I am delighted with these gorgeous, healthy, and friendly chicks. Also , Chickee is a very lovely breeder to acquire birds from.

You are very welcome! I am happy that you decided to get some of Chickee's adorable chicks, and they are much prettier in person than my photos.

They sure are cute! With those dark legs, fluffy faces and little pea combs, you have a good chance of getting green or blue eggs!

I really love the coloring of Thelma. Such a rich warm color.

But, they don't look like Ameraucanas, they look like Easter Eggers. The chipmunk patterned chicks point towards EE too. Bell is a creamy color, so might end up a standard Ameraucana color, but since Mariposa and and Sorrel look like EEs, Bell probably is too.

EEs are great fun though. One of the benefits of EEs is that each one looks so different, they are easy to tell apart. :D

I agree they are EEs and sadly you can't show them. But on a brighter note they make great pets and have lovely personalities

I think it depends on the fair... There were a bunch of EEs labled as Ameraucanas at the little local county fair.

They are local fairs thy have EEs entered a ameraucanas here too. But EEs aren't an actual breed an cant be shown. But in 4-H fairs they let a lot slide, but IMO that doesn't mean it should be done
