Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So just so I am clear, no full blooded has a light green tint to eggs?
a true variety may have green tinted eggs because breeders don't necessarily breed for perfect egg color. it would be slightly greenish blue not green. when you are buying a true variety you have to look at the adult birds, you can immediately see that those birds are not one of the true bred variety.

Yes they do. Blue is in the eye of the beholder, imo. The egg color chart of the ABC club has a wide spectrum of color from blue to blue green that they deem acceptable. Some breeders work on egg color, others work more on SOP. Some try to work on both, but obtaining perfection on both is very difficult. Obtaining perfection on one is difficult! I have never seen a true blue egg like the color of blue on the below "submit" button. Well, I take that back. Once I did see one person post a pic of an egg her hen or pullet laid and she was as shocked as everybody else at its deep color. I don't know if the hen continued to lay those or if it was just an unusal color dump on it's first egg. Anyway, most eggs I have seen in my flock and from shipped eggs from others have always looked either blue green to me or a very pale tint of blue. I have seen some beautiful turquoise colored eggs come from one in my flock and I'm trying to work on getting more of those in my flock because I think they are beautiful. From what I have been told, egg color is not judged in the SOP.
Btw, the longer the egg laying season goes on, the paler the eggs usually get. The girls lay their deepest color either when they first start laying or when they start laying again after quitting for either molt or winter.

here is my email to her:
Are you sure these are only full blooded Ameraucana eggs? They have a green tint and according to the Ameraucana web site they can not be full if they have a green tint.. They would be Easter Eggers. Which are they? Could you send me pictures of the rooster and hens? [email protected]
thanks.

Here is her response:
Dear mdkrush,

they are ameraucana. and arauacana have blue/green eggs which is stated in the listing. color does vary somewhat with the hens. the picture of the rooster and hens is on the listing.

what we are questioning here is the breed variety. it doesn't matter what shade of blue or green the eggs are. The "breed variety" of those birds is non existent.

The issue is not the green tint, but rather the the birds pictured are not Ameraucana. However, you purchased them based on the photos post with the ad. I would chalk it up a learning/educational experience for you.

Don't buy amerecaunas on ebay EVER.
Some reliable breeders sell on Ebay, but you need to know who they are. Some BYCers with good quality birds sell on there. You just have to do your homework on the breed you want to purchase and only buy from people you "know" are responsible breeders of purebred birds.
