Where did they get them.

Cloverleaf, lavender does dilute color. It is a recessive gene and it does dilute.

Thanks Jean , I'm really trying hard to get my old brain wrapped around color genetics of chickens but its not so easy anymore to learn new things that are different than those I know for other species .

Lavender is an odd one. It is recessive, so it takes two copies to express the lavender color. It is also a diluter, so it dilutes black and red (gold/buff). And probably other colors that I am not fully aware of yet....

SteveH,
When you breed Lav(blue) X Lav(blue) yes you would get a splash but I am not interested in doing that if at all possible because there would probably be no benefit in such a mating. I only used the blue to lavender because I could not find enough black Orpington hens/pullets two years ago and had to use a some blues Orpington hens/pullets. Now quality blacks are a lot easier to get thanks to BamaChicken.
All these matings pertain also to Ameraucanas and I am not trying to hijack this thread since I do raise Lavender and Black LF Ameraucanas. I do not own a blue Ameraucana and have not used any in my previous Ameraucana matings.

My birthday hatch has begun! Pips&Peeps sent me 16 B/S Ameraucana replacement eggs, which my airport/courrier service lost AGAIN. Despite being missing for a few days, out of 16 eggs, 14 made it to lockdown, and I awoke to one gorgeous blue chick peeping loudly. Several more are pipping, and I hope to come home tonight to a bunch of gorgeous blue and splash babies. Pictures will of course follow, but I gotta get ready to meet the girls for my b-day
