Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Help, Help.  First time with Brinsea.  I have 18 eggs in there but it can do 24.  The first little guy just hatched, seems ok, but still on his back.  It is so crowded and he really does not have much room.  I did a no-no and quickly opened it and got half the shell out so he is not so wedged.  Should I be concerned he is still on his back? It appears this might be a little splash from my new black roo.  I am asking here since SCFlock has so much experience with a Brinsea.

At this point, I would just pull him out and put him in the brooder... if he stays on his back he might not make it... lungs are under his weight that way... jmo...

By the way, you can't get a Splash if one of the parents is Black. Not possible. Looks like you might have a recessive White.

I would certainly hope that I'm not invoking politics. I think I said that both of them have made significant contributions.

I take exception to blanket statements, that could influence someone, that doesn't know better, into thinking that one breeder's birds are better than another's, when both are well known and both have accomplished so much within the breed.

I'll add that I was, by profession a computer analyst, and by nature a collector of facts. So I probably have a lower tolerance of broad categorization than most.

Could be. I was a senior executive which might mean that I was quick to see both sides. I am also, by nature, strongly into "love and harmony" which is probably the real reason. That is probably why I love animals so much......especially cute little AM babies.

I now have two!!!!!!!

Horrible, horrible photo, but you can see the blur on the right which I think may be a blue and on the left, another is almost out. Then I already have the one hatched last night in the very temporary brooder. We are just barely into day 21. And just my luck, I have to go out of town in the middle of the day.

This is a learning moment for me. I have a black roo with two splash and a black hen, hoping for beautiful dark blues with great lacing, a few black and my favorite, the splash. I thought I studied my chart well before I did so. Obviously not. My other group, blue roo, black, blue and splash hens will surely give me some splash.

However, I have been secretly hoping for some recessive whites again this year as I had two last year and gave them away not knowing what they were. Last year was my first year to hatch from my foundation stock, but I gave all away to friends. If this one is white, I see another pen in my future, much to my husbands dismay.
