Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Oh he's lovely Shelley! I have one older than that that still looks like a giraffe

Love the BW roos!

Thanks! There for a while, this boy looked really strange, too.

I compared him to a 6 foot tall, 13 year old boy...VERY gangly looking.

Does anyone have the actual SOP for the Ameraucana...or can someone direct me to where it might be posted?

Well, after 4 months the ABC finally cashed my membership check. Jean, maybe I will get to vote for you!

One of my 32 week old Ameraucana's is now broody.

I'm collecting eggs to see how she does at being a mom. I'll take some pictures when I get her moved to a more private location in the coop.

Last night was her first night on the nest. And she hasn't been off the nest at all today. Right now, she's sitting on wooden eggs.

I want to vote too!

Anyway- got a pic of my clean-faced girls today. They have perfect little dove heads. I hope at least they lay some decent eggs.
I don't know if the lack of beard is causing an illusion, but these 2 seem fat compared to my other girls.

Hiya CottageGarden! Don't know if you remember but I purchase eggs from you in May. Well I have 12 beautiful birds now. After looking at your pics, I can see why mine are so pretty! I have been lurking on this thread. I will have to post pics of my birds now so you can see how they turned out. I love em.

Awesome!! I could never hatch eggs when I started with this breed so it is always so heartwarming to see someone have a good hatch!
Nothing more fun than baby pics-can't wait!
Here is a shot of one of your babies mommas for you

Too bad those girls are lacking beards...they look very nice otherwise, particularity the tail color on the right.
I like their solid, darker, wing triangle which probably would help to contribute to the same in the males.

Maybe they are heavier because those pesky beards are not getting in the way at chow time

a few questions from a new ABC member (got my package in the mail today) :

how do i get on the ABC forum? i saw several pages back alot of people where having trouble - how did you get it resolved?

since i cant get on there i'll ask my Ameraucana question here :
i was reading the ABC handbook and really enjoyed the article - The Status Of The Ameraucana Breed : A Missourian's Perspective by Michael Muenks

i do not currently have any Ameraucana's.i'm researching to find out which variety i want.i originally thought wheaten but after reading the mentioned article got me thinking about silver.
it talks about building a flock with a silver roo and you can use a blue, black or white hen - which leads me to my question,is one of the colors of hens better to use than the others and why?

what i'm thinking of doing is to order some black chicks and try to get the best blue egg i can and then maybe try and start a silver flock.

any thoughts?
thanks,
Junior
