Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The blue isn't actually supposed to have that lacing. According to the standard, it's supposed to be "an even grayish blue". I agree with you Tyler, it IS pretty, but unfortunately it isn't what is desired according to the standard. I really like the black pullet in the pic by herself!

This is what I thought and I've asked several people and gotten no where THANKS! I think if I breeder her to a blue it might get better or maybe a splash something to dilute the color. What about the BW rooster? I have no idea what I'm doing there.... I think he's nice. He doesn't have any red in his tail or breast which I have read is bad..... did I do well?

. . . . I swear I will never understand blue birds. Some breeds want lacing, some want a solid blue. Hmm. Well at least I now learned.

Since you stated "everyone"
I can chime in...I think the black is the prettiest formed and the blue the prettiest feathers.
So if you really don't like her...I'll take her off your hands for ya - just to be nice.

Me? Thanks I can't take any credit for any of them. I bought them all from different breeders. The blue and the black in the picture by herself are Little Ameraucana Mom breeding (Sally) and the Black pair is from Patty Pickard.

I really like the BW! His hackles are CLEAN! Wow! I'd love to see better pics of the girls when you get a chance - it's hard to tell color with that bright sunlight in the crate photo, but it looks like the heads might be kind of gingery on a couple of them...

I got a light blue with dark lacing from LAM too, but he was beardless...I ended up not keeping any of the chicks I hatched from her this spring and staying with solid Blehm lines...

She lives about ten minutes (probably not that) away and she was the first person to introduce me to Ameraucanas. I have three from her. A pullet from Bob Walchak and a pair from Patty Pickard in that pen. So hopefully they will melt together well and will form my own line of Bantam Blue and Black Ameraucanas. We show together alot. She has some nice big Bantam pullets. Mine are a little on the small side but I think they are doing stellar!

How have you been doing at shows recently Jeanine?

My mother Little Ameraucana Mom has had some great chicks hatch out. She has done very well at the shows. My little sister just got Champion AOCCL with one of her Bantam Ameraucanas. I am sorry to hear about your chick Cloverleaf. Out of hunderds of chicks we have hatched out we have never had a beardless chick. Maybe he was just slower at grower.

No, I kept him till he was almost 5 months old. But he went to a good home where they were going to try some "creative breeding" to see if they could use him.
