Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hope I'm not interrupting, but I have a few questions. I, too, have been confused about "the blues." Light? Dark? Laced? Plain?

I am, however, considering getting some lavender ameraucanas before too long. I know there are not many around, and perhaps it is a new variation, something off the blue line?

Can anyone shed any light on lavenders for me? Where they originated, what to look for, are they in the APA standard, etc.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know they aren't a recognized variety. The recognized colors are:

Blue
Black
Wheaten
Blue Wheaten
White
Buff
Brown-Red
Silver

Though I did see some at the show last weekend. I imagine they'd have to be in an open class though.

I think for OEGBs you want the lighter blue though, don't you? For Ameraucanas, it should be a little darker...

No, you want dark blue, but not so dark that you lose the lacing. Kind of like this:

ETA: though this one would be DQ'd because she has white in her earlobes

But she has good color.

Huh, interesting, I'd love to hear what the "blue experts" think. All I know is what Jean told me once when I was hatching the blues from LAM this spring, and that was that the ameraucanas were supposed to be a darker more even blue...I dunno...

They are not in the standard yet I do believe the qualifying meet is at next years national meet correct?

You aren't interupting AT ALL! This is what we've been discussing for a couple hours now LOL!

They are being shown as "lavenders" though it's an AOV category, the ABC is expecting the APA to accept the color at nationals next year.

maybe it would be a good idea to get some blacks with my lavenders, huh?
