Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Yeah- they both look like wheatens. I think she got her eggs from Halo? I'd love to get my hands on the feather-legged girl though. I think Halo might be living too close to a nuclear reactor or something

Just kidding Kathy!

Really? Ginger Wheaton? Interesting!! Yes, my eggs were from Halo, and she has never gotten a feather legged one before. I don't breed, I can't have roosters. Maybe someday I'll arrange for a trist with a nice Ameraucana roo and try for some more feather legged ones. Just out of curiosity, though - why would you advise not to breed the Blue Wheaton one?

My roo is from peachick. My Gary Ramey roo is now full grown and out with the wheaten girls and breeding them, so fortunately I have some new "blood" coming in. I still have the peachick roo in with them, since some of my best pullets are from him. I have 5 hens/pullets that Im using now, and I really like all of them, good sized, good color, no feathers on their legs (!!), and all poofy faced. Still getting some odd "white wheatens" now and again, but havent gotten any clean faced ones in a while. I have a few clean faced pullets in my laying herd, but Im only using them for olive eggers. Who knew the B/W Ams. could be so varied in type?

You know, she's looking a lot like the EE crosses that I hatched out this summer. But Im sure you got eggs from my Am. pen, not the free range pen. I wonder if I could have mixed up the eggs when I brought them in the house, because the EE eggs are every bit as blue as the Am. eggs.

The eggs were definatley a nice light blue color.

So - to re-cap - the first "Ameraucana" I bought turned out to be a White Leghorn. The second "Ameraucana" my BF bought for me is an EE (at that point I had educated myself enough to know that ones from a feed store are EE's), and one of my "Ameraucana" hatchlings is also possibly an EE!!! It's like someone above doesn't want me to have an Ameraucana!

And my flock just keeps growing by two or three chicks every time I try to get one!

Does the Blue Wheaton one look like a ture Ameraucana?

Hi,
I have six two week old Wheatons I hatched out. I must say, they all look alike right now. The breeder said that at about three weeks I could tell if I had girls or boys. Is there any tell tale signs at an early age?
