Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That's an Easter Egger.

Easter Eggers are extremely common and also very commonly sold under false claim to be an Araucana or Ameraucana, but they're actually just "mutts" with possible blue or green eggs.

Araucanas have no tails, no beard, and have big curly tufts of feathers coming out of the sides of their faces

Ameraucanas have slate legs, recognized colors (he's not a recognized color, infact he's a mix of gold duckwing and white) and always lay blue or blue-green eggs. They don't come from feedstores, hatcheries, local auctions, or most local neighbors.

Man! I'm moving to Tennesee or Washington. They have all the cool chickens there.

Sorry FreeRunRevolution, that's what was called a Barnyard chicken when I was a kid. I'd say EE but his comb is not like any pea comb I've seen on my EEs.

Yes, but also blue males will develop dark feathers at the shoulders, neck, and back. First the neck, then shoulders, then back. Their tail feathers will also be darker.

Black males will develop a lot of green sheen.

Splash males will not have much "splash coloration" except dark splashy coloring popping up in their neck and back, then in the shoulders too.

The color is stunning to me as I have Blue Copper Marans I would like the Blue Wheatens in Ameracauna just haven't found any off BYC I'd like some for the Easter hatch but not for 200.00 I'd have to go live in the coop if I paid that for eggs

Lotsa, you're in Paso right? I'm just a few hours North of you in the Bay Area and I have Blue Wheatens. My girls have just started giving me eggs again but I will probably have enough for a dozen in about a month.

I could even drive them down to the Central Coast to meet you, we are always looking for an excuse to visit Morro Bay.
