Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Does anybody have a link to where I can get an egg color chart? I really don't want to go through the ABC site and have to wait 6 months for one. I have lots of eggs to sell and I'd like to have the scale in case anybody asks about color.
The marans scale was much easier to find. I hope they send stuff out fast.

Me too Dipsy! I guess maybe if you purchase a membership through the mail you can add that onto your payment, but I don't think that option was there when I joined online.

ETA: Ok- I got one here: http://www.araucana.net/Araucana_store.htm
The
only problem was I wanted to order 2 and as soon as you click "buy it now" it takes you to checkout, so you have to do one at a time.

The one in the front looks like a blue. Try looking at them without the red light- it will make blues look black- I've done that myself! If you can see their tiny wing feathers when they are a couple days old.... Sometimes it all depends on how many chicks you hatch- there is no rule to how many of each color you will actually get, just average percentages. Congrats on your hatch!

Believe me when I tell you I am no expert at all and just starting out myself, but from what I can see and remembering my last hatch, it looks like the one in the front is a Blue and the two behind it might be Blacks. HTH

BTW Wannabchick....... Mine are all grown now. I hatched them last year and I had no Splashes. Only Blues and Black and from what I remember, they all looked at that. Hunting pics of them as newborns now to double check for you.

Yup! They looked exactly like yours do now as chicks. With the white in the front.

The colors can change as the chicks grow and begin to feather out. And the color can sometimes change between their juvenile feathers to adult feathers. The blue wyandottes I have changed quite abit from their baby fuzz. Alice was a lighter chick that appeared splash but her first feathers where more blue. As she has gotten bigg and has been slowly shedding and regrowing feathers she is a dark blue black.

so.....I have a question perfect for this thread

don't worry, I'm sure most of us don't sell for that price. In fact, even the lady with the 200+ $ Blue Wheaten eggs normally, outside of auctions, sells at a normal price

Hopefully soon I'll have BBS eggs available, and they're certain to be cheaper than you might think.
