Did you try the cayenne pepper? I could only find one tiny container back in December- it was enough for 1 day. I don't know if it was that or the solstice- but everybody went into overdrive after that. My god I have soooo many eggs. Be careful what you wish for!

Whats the Cayenne Pepper for??? Just wonderin

I think I may try the cayenne pepper, how much did you use HappyMtn? I have 5 gallon bucket feeders if that makes any difference. I'm literally only getting 1 or 2 eggs every other day from my 4 mature girls, that was before the weather decided to turn ugly again.

Now I feel lucky if I see any blue eggs in the nesting boxes at all!

Me too.......................My Ameraucanas from him will be Black, Blue & Splash chickies..............

That is great, I was told he has some of the best after the research I have done all fall and winter.

I think I posted this before, but I'll repeat because sometimes it's a daunting task to go through all the pages of this thread. I have some very pretty (black) pullets from Paul Smith to improve my lav project. They began laying at a very young age, give me lots of eggs each week and they lay very big eggs. The color is much improved over the eggs I receive from my lav pullets. The pullets themselves have good size, great feather quality, and they are excellent foragers needing very little feed when allowed to free range (I think that particular trait is characteristic of the breed in general, though). I am pleased with them and also the pullets from Jean who have HUGE muffs and good egg color. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Don't be suprised this year folks if the chick orders are delayed due to a lingering infertile period because of the bad weather nationwide this winter. Good luck with your chicks!

I took this picture for my auction, but I'll post it here so you can see the size of the Smith pullets' eggs; they are located on the bottom right. This is a carton for store-bought "Large" eggs. As you can see, some of those are almost too big to fit!

I am wondering also. I have two 1 gallon bags full of dried Cayenne Peppers ready to be grounded up. I also have jalapeño and serrano pepper.

From Wikipedia
The active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin, which is a chemical derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus, including chilis.

It is believed that capsaicin when ingested by chickens induces laying, and since chickens aren't affected by the "heat", why not give it a try????

Right- supposedly something in the "heat" and it improves circulation. I got some pills for myself, but they give me heartburn

I just sprinkled one of those little spice jars over about 4 coffee tubs worth of feed. And I had switched them over to flockraiser and game starter (28%) for a short time too.
I was getting like 1 egg a day from my whole flock before the solstice.
