Sweet! LOL I signed up one of my black hens from Wayne just to see what the judge would think of her, but I may or may not bring her, she's not in the best feather, might wait until April to see what she looks like by then...

I'm having that problem out of my own stock right now. They should be a buff color like on the ABC club pictures.

In flock I get some with a partridge like pattern on them and just this year I got some that look like they may be carrying the dun gene. But I have a new cock bird over the hens out of Gary's flock right now to improve egg color. I may have to go back to one of my old guys.

PM me some pics.

With wheaten ameraucanas you can tell hens/roos apart by 3-4 weeks of age. The hens stay light tanish color, the roos get black/tan and look calico.

Are Blue wheanen ameraucas the same way? Can you tell those apart by 3-4 weeks of age?

Wanted to get some real feedback from real owners on this breed. Wondering if the breed as a whole has a certain personality & if you think this breed would get along with a silkie. Just had to find a home for my bantam slw because she started picking on my silkie out of nowhere. (I'm still new to chickens but I know it wasn't boredom or protein ) So a store near me will have this breed & wanted experienced opinions. Thanks for any feedback. FYI there will only be 2 total hens. Just want to find my silkie a friend.

You say a store will have them. . . You're SURE they're Ameraucanas?

Ameraucanas as a whole are very tolerating breed that do very well with others. With people, I hear Silvers are quite skittish, have no clue about Brown-Reds, and from my experience, - Wheatens and Blue Wheatens are friendly, Blue/Black/Splashes are very friendly, and so are Buffs. Often the larger quantity you have, the less friendly they are though.

well if you get it from a feedstore it will be an EE and I've had some of those and they can make really good pets. My first chicken ever was an EE that for some reason my sister named Mongoose! She was just so adorable and sweet and would follow you around, BUT I personally wouldn't put anything in with Silkies other than silkies. Some have whats called a vaulted skull and that means there is a hole in the skull and the brain protrudes. If this spot is pecked then it could possible kill the silkie. I would get her another silkie friend because Ameraucanas can be quite bossy at times, but I have some that are really sweet as well. EEs can also be sweet but also have the same tendancy like the Ameraucanas to be bossy at times.
