Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Honest opinion and feedback on the white hen -

She's pretty, however the big thing that sticks out in the photo is her pinched tail. An Ameraucana must have a fully spread tail, looking like a nice tall wedge from the side view.

Thank-you Illia

I thought the same thing about her tail. Love her face and gorgeous blue eggs though!

yes just where on the wheaten cockerel you would see black you will see blue instead.

I have 11 little Ameraucana babies, most of them have tan feathers coming in on their chests and necks, a couple have the calico look. Is it safe to say the tan feathered ones are females? They are two weeks and 5 days (19 days) old.

Yes. Pics can help, but yes. If the chests especially are a lighter color, nearly white.

Define Calico ?

There are some that are obviously tan, and some that are obviously "calico" but I can't tell about the ones half-way in-between!

Here is one of the darker "calico" ones;

And here is one of the tan ones;

The top chick is a Wheaten cockerel. The Blue Wheatens will look the same, but replace the black feathers with gray.

The bottom chick looks like a Blue Wheaten pullet. The pullets will be a creamy light brown color all over.
