Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That buff pullet is stunning! Love the lavender juveniles. Steve could you please elaborate on the slow feathering gene you mentioned. How did it manifest itself, in other words, how did you know you had it.

Hi all

Just hatched 6/8 eggs

True amerecaunas

Wheaten and blue wheaten

Whoot whoot

2 though have a little black dot on the top of their head

Does this mean anything?

Thank u

The Buff Project Bantams. The rooster is 3/4 Buff 1/4 Wheaten and the Hens are 1/2 Black 1/2 Buff. I should start hatching out some Buff Chicks!

but from what I've seen it takes FOREVER for them to grow a tail. I no longer have this boy.

I will admit, once I actually have a mating

Buff cockerel, I'll pair him up with my remaining Blue hen, too, and not just Wheatens. It will take longer to reach a goal, but hopefully be worth it. The blue girl has great body, HUGE muffs, a very blue egg, and her solid feather color should hopefully improve the undercoat of the buffs.

Sorry, just got back; but yes, and it is more acurately called tardy feathering. Wing feathers far behind the others and I had to check to make sure I had not missed seeing a chick that was hatched rumpless.

The feathers grew out in time, but I just found too many things showing up that I did not like in that group of chicks; so I culled them and now getting some others.

edited to remove stutters

LOL So, I started kind of freaking out, because I have chicks hatching, and just for kicks I threw in 2 eggs from my EE that's my best layer and lays speckled eggs. One lav Ameraucana hatched, and one of her eggs has hatched. They look IDENTICAL!!!

Then I realized that the Ameraucana has a tiny piece of shell stuck to it, so now I can tell them apart!!
