Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi!
Precious, precious chick pics --- every single one.
I'm curious too.

OK, now I'm curious. You said Blehm doesn't raise whites, so how did you end up with a pure white from him

Jeremy- No wonder you love Sleepykins....just about like holding a sleeping baby person, huh?

As for the question as to the white chick in the order, I would "assume" that the reason John does not have white ams on his order form is because he doesn't raise enough of them to fill the multitude of orders that he gets. So although he may have some, he doesn't advertise them. That would explain why some of them make it into the "extra chick" category.

That's my theory.

I FINALLY just won Ameraucana hatching eggs from Wayne Meredith that he has been listing on EBAY.

I literally have been trying to win these eggs since he has started listing them, like 2 1/2 months ago, all of the auctions would get right to the last couple minutes and people would start bidding like crazy. I could never get a bid to stick.

Until now!

The best part is I didn't even have to go over my "spending limit", I placed my high bid and it never was exceeded. I'm SO excited!

Jeremy, John does not raise white birds. The bird you received was a "packing peanut".

If you read your order form it says "anomalies do occur". I believe he has gotten a couple of these "anomalies" from his black pen over the past year.

ETA: I got one last year from him, it will not feather in pure white. It should end up having alot of grey feathers, not quite a splash, but not what I would call a regular white.

Thank you for the explanation Jean, do you have any mature pictures of the chick you received?

Would that be recessive White coming into play somewhere in his line of blacks then?

I don't think it is recessive white. Mine was a cockerel and he is long gone. I think you will find yours is a cockerel too.

Most of these weird white mutations have been cockerels. There has been talk that there is a third kind of white floating around. I don't know the specifics, but briefly remember something said about it.

If you remember there were some white wheaten varieties that popped out last year too.

I have a mystery chick in my order also. At first I though it might be a buff but now that the feathers aare coming in more I am leaning towards a splash wheaten or some kind of anomoly. I will let it feather out just to see but give it away because I don’t want any unknown genes running through my lines. I was majorly disappointed with my order...considering I have been waiting since last spring for my actual order...and it looks like I will have to wait another year. Very dissappoining.
