Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

One thing I've always noticed is that Ameraucanas always have white on the bottoms of their feet (whitish) and "EE" will be yellow on the bottoms of their feet. I'm not talking about right when they hatch but 3 maybe 4 wks old.

I was told by one of the breeders, that silver is much easier than gold to breed out of the lavenders

I never heard of the lavs having leakage. My biggest issue is the slow feathering.

I'm surprised you haven't. My lavender split/split rooster from eggs I hatched from Jean has cream on his hackles and shoulders. I saw bantam lavender Ameraucanas at the Stockton California show with cream also. I was told by Harry Shaffer that gold leakage was much harder to breed out than silver. Are you saying that the cream on my lavender is called something other than leakage?

A creamy color isn't unusual in lavenders. its just a fading from what I read. I read that is most prevalent in the cockerels. I've also read that you shouldn't have much if any other color leakage because of the nature of Lavender.

This is just from my reading. My new Lavender Bantams should be here any day now!

Gah! Exhausted! I picked up my chicks and I think I got the end of his bantam hatching season, because I got about twice as many as I ordered.

They all made it here without any deaths yet! The bantams are SOOO tiny, I'm so afraid of breaking one.

I got a used universal brooder box but it wasn't set up yet, just my little plastic tub, so I had to pull some more plastic tubs out to make room for them all while I get the new brooder box up and running. I am sweating like crazy.

Off to test the temp in the new brooder. Wish me luck!
