Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Oh, I wasn't questioning your assessment of the wheaties, Jeremy! They are girlies, for sure! Just interesting that one has her comb "pinking up" while the other is still flat and white. Wow, who knew this breed was a wee bit tricky! And my non-expert opinion loves your Hoyt! Wowie! Handsome guy!

Thanks, BarnGoddess01 who wrote:
"The girls' combs do pink up eventually and some can even get rather pronounced, in my experience.
I vote pullet on your questionable one (I really would expect more comb development in a cockerel by 10 weeks) and look forward to hearing what he/she proves to be in the end!"

I will let you know about the boy/girl thing. I will hope you are right. The combs on the Silvers look so different from the Wheatons, which look different from the Lavs...ARGH! At least the White is easy to tell!

are you sure, cause its not a good pic, and the label at tsc said ameraucana, and they liik just like the pics on this thread.

Yes, hatcheries and thusly feedstores do not have true Ameraucanas, they just call them that. Some even put up signs that say Ameraucana/ Araucana. The only true Ameraucana chicks that have chipmunk type stripes on their backs are silvers, and that's the wrong color chick to be a silver.

That is I have to say the prettiest EE I've ever seen!

aww thanks

but is she and EE or an araucana or is there any way to know? and do you think she would make a good show hen?

Araucanas are rumpless. They have a thread as well. She would make a good layer hen.
