Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So, I have two pure AM pullets, one blue one splash, who are now about ~ 9 1/2 months old. They are lovely and sweet. The splash is so affectionate.

Everything is wonderful except I have not had one egg yet!! All my other girls and even my silkies I hatched in July have laid eggs.

I know it's been winter [I'm near Philadelphia] but I'm starting to wonder if this is odd or just a matter of old-man-winter???

Thanks!

The blue bird behind the splash is a roo. That is not my other blue pullet.

The splash has darker splashes now, fluffier beard and her comb is red.

They can start SUPER late, especially when they over winter at that age.

I have 5 GNH that hatched in early March and I am STILL waiting for eggs. I get 1 or 2 a day.... one day I did get 5 but that has never happened again.

I had an EE that took about that long too. A year is a LONG time to wait for eggs

Thank you, both. You made me feel better. Yes, waiting a year for eggs is torture! And .... I'm about to tell you something SO odd it's hard for me to even believe it.

This morning when I wrote here, I was near the point of thinking it might never happen.

Below is what greeted me when I got home from work. NO JOKE I swear it! One of them must have heard me complaining!

It looks a little green in this picture but it is not. It is a blue but a pale blue. Is that not uncommon for blue AMs? Which AMs seem to lay the deepest blue color? Or am I imagining that I read something about wheatens or buffs having better egg color on average?

Can't wait to see more from these girls though! Thanks for looking!

I can't speak for ALL ams, but the wheatens are known for egg color. Mine lay a pretty blue egg. I had one that laid almost a white egg her pullets are laying a bluer egg but still light.

Ah, yes, the wheatens. Thank you. Nice that you get such good colors. It's still new to me, having young pullets, so every new girl that lays is a bit like opening a present!

I have whites and they came from the bluest eggs I had ever seen. I am hoping my girls will produce that same color.
