Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

G'mornin everyone! I picked up 4 wheaton/blue Wheaton ameracauna chicks this weekend from a breeder that came recommended :) fingers crossed they're pure from what I've read but I have faith, she had beautiful parent birds, seperated in pens, not mixed, chicks labeled and tagged- I was impressed.

They are approx 2-3 weeks and after getting some pics up close I'm scared I got FOUR ROO's! I'm hope its too early and I am being pessimistic due to the hours upon hours of reading about EE/ameracauna mixups/thinking I got that part down pat finding and traveling so far to seek the right breed...only to find out I can't keep any O_O it'd break my heart with all we had to go through for um lol...please let me know if there is at least one pullet?

Hello! WheatEn/Blue WheatEn Ameraucanas are sexable by color. The males will grow in Blue/Black dark feathers and the pullets will be light colored. Chick one appears to be a pullet.

Not sure about the leg color though? I'll have to refer to my Wheaten chick pics for reference, but it doesn't look like your chicks have any slate color. I know Wheatens are lighter in the beginning but I thought mine had some slate color. Experts?

Not only that if it is a splash wheaten, it is harder to tell. At least it is for me. To young to tell.

Thanx so much for your input! Sorry about the spelling, avoided the "i" in spell check and still got um wrong lol they very well could be splash also I was told. So I guess I wait it out a bit :) sorta antsy like I was waiting for my 1st eggs!

Here's my boy I'm potentially keeping. We named him Dragon. He's so friendly and I pray he stays that way. He's a wheaten. I think he's a nice looking boy too, but these are my first wheatens/blue wheatens.

I have a blue wheaten boy too. He's not as social as Dragon.

Ihave a few ameraucanas that are prob. between 5-7 weeks old. I am fairly certain of at least one roo. The others are starting to grow a comb but it is not as large and not the red color of the suspect roo. Anyone want to let me know what they think about these guys? They are splash and blue/black ameraucanas.

#1 suspected roo

Splash hen?

black hen?

They are all from the same breeder. The suspected roo is bigger then the other two. They may have been hatched a few days apart but were all relatively the same size when we got them. The splash has larger tail feathers then the black chick that we think is a hen but her comb is small and not red. Should they be developing combs just as red as the roo or are some late bloomers? Please let me know what you think!
