I have 4 that are supposed to be amaraucana they all have slate grey legs but only Sarah has a muff and beard however I was told that was normal from breeder

yes easter eggers but those are 2 really really pretty birds. Those are the kind that if you mix with a nice EE rooster will give some nice chicks. or mix with a Dark layer or Olive egger for some nice Olive eggers

I really love how you say its Tawny or Sarah NOT an Ameraucana. This is so cute and the best way ive seen someone combat the negative feelings other people give with the whole EE thing. It really seems like people just cant resist calling someones bird its an EE. Do they really get so bugged by seeing the pictures they have to tell someone its an EE and boot them to the other thread. Its almost like a contest who can say it first. Or when you already know and have been told but people just cant resist telling you again and again. I think if they want to keep the threads clean and topic specific there is probably better ways of going about it. All the reasons people will give in response to this post wont be valid. you will look how its done over and over again and it will be very clear if their positive reasons for telling someone its an EE were real then they would go about it in a different way. To be fair though i have read some very nice people telling people its an EE in a very good ways as of late. .

I have yet to see anybody gleefully tell somebody they got ripped off. There is no glee involved in telling people their beloved birds are not the real deal. There is nothing wrong with Easter Eggers - the problem is with the people that are calling them Ameraucanas, selling them as Ameraucanas (probably for more money than they would if they were called what they really are).. and then having another bunch of disappointed chicken owners come here to find out their birds are not a breed.

There is no competition to see who can tell them first. There is no joy in telling people this. There is a wish that people would research the birds first, or that they would follow the links to the ABC website and see what the breed looks like before buying if they want the breed. I read a tiredness in some of the short replies. "Your bird is an EE." That does not denote happiness, that denotes a fatigue that I understand because this person has been dealing with this problem for probably over 30 years...

Easter Eggers can lay as blue of an egg as Ameraucanas. Hatchery Easter Eggers can (and usually do) lay more eggs than Ameraucanas, because the focus of hatcheries is egg production - not show quality. Easter Eggers are great birds - but they are NOT Ameraucanas.

If you have a suggestion of a "different way" for how we can get these newcomers over to the correct thread that actually celebrates our Easter Eggers, without explaining that they were lied to when they bought their birds and having to convince them of that .. I would like to hear it. I haven't seen one yet.

I have bought two easter eggers under the false advertising of Ameracauna, they both have tuffs out their ears, As much as I am happy with my birds I would love to have some true breeds. I have been having such a hard time finding any anywhere. Mine lay green eggs, I also am first time hatching my own of my easter eggers right now and am excited to see what will hatch.

Eta - to he fair... If this thread was created (and I believe it was) to talk only about the accepted breed standards than that is what should be discussed here. And any newcomers should be told that. If they don't read the first post... I never did either... They need to be told one way or another.

All breeds have off colors even in other species. Doesn't make them not that breed necessarily just makes them not show able or breeding worthy for more of that color.

Off my soapbox now. Hope everyone has enjoyed their 4th of July holiday and remembered that without the freedom those first founders gave us 237 years ago, this thread may not exsist.

Oh my goodness, I was googling wheatan roos lol and ended up here ob an older page, got lost reading and commented before realizing my phone auto signed me in to BYC...sorry!

I'm thinking roo too :l eagle look, dark feathering and a pink comb at 5 weeks. If its not a roo, I may very well have a pullet I thought was a roo! So I def am interested in finding out! I'm hoping girl for you but I see roo.

Am I the only one that thinks this looks like a roo? Comb looks a little pink for 5 weeks.
