Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Still an ameraucana, just not a recognized one. Non-standard, I have wheatan ameraucanas. When bred there is wheatan (recognized color) and blue wheatan (also recognized) AND a Splash gene! That is Not recognized, but still an ameraucana. Another part of the standard - not only coloring goes a skew...but they must breed true 50% of the time I believe.
mixing pure breeds may cause that to be a disqualifier, tho lavenders have been worked on to meet standard and are almost recognized lol I think! So it *can* be done but its a long road.
EES I believe are such as an ameraucana (true blue layers) crossed with any other layer. Making offspring lay colored eggs more often than pure ameraucanas
Im interested in this answer, too. Say, hypothetically I breed a red/brown Ameraucana with a blue Ameraucana. Both full blooded. I understand the color of the chicks may not be recognized by the Ameraucana Club, but it still would be a full blooded Ameraucana, not an EE. Am I correct?

So basically if you breed any pure color with another color it becomes an easter egger because its not a pure color? And how the heck does Black + White = that? Genetics are crazy right??
White can hide any color and any pattern.I like mine based on black. Some say silver is better.Since yours has the partridge look common in ee he may have been bred up from ee and hiding many colors and patterns. This is just a guess.

The Club considers that an easter egger. They must breed true at least 50% of the time which is why you can breed blues together and blacks together.

Sneaky chickens!

Sneaky is right!! He chanced his life getting in there with that roo! Yeesh.... I was SO sure she was pure!!

AND I was so sure she was a SHE! A cockeral you say? Based on...something to do with the comb I'm guessing? Please educate me! I've only been at 'chickening' about a year and a half and have much to learn

I just hatched my first ever chicks in the bator and they are all mutts - but I thought it would be nice to keep any sired by my Lav Am. But I have come to realize I don't know how to tell which ones might be the olive eggers, LOL!

My hens are
Blue Marans
Black Australorp
Golden Laved Wyandotte
Rhode I land White

All lay some shade of brown egg.

The other roos are a RIR and a Cuckoo Marans
I have 15 chicks and lots with feather legs. So they are probably CM mixes - but the Blue Marans love our Lav Am so any of her chicks are likely to be his. Unfortunately all of them got mixed together and I don't know who came from what egg, LOL! Should I look for beards??

Okay, okay...back me up here so I understand this completely.

Because this 'blue partridge' is the offspring of a p/b ameracauna hen and roo, she is purebred, but considered an EE because she is a has unrecognized coloring?

That makes better sense...I couldn't figure out how another roo could have got in/out of that pen without anyone's knowledge!

I can't answer all of your questions but I can solve one part- any with a white dot on their head carry the barring gene so they are most likely sired by the Cuckoo Marans rooster. From what I can tell most of the chicks have that. The whites may also be sired by the Cuckoo but you can't tell because the white would mask the barring spot. Not of them are obviously from the lavender but you can at least eliminate the barred chicks and then grow the rest out and look for the muffs/beard.
