Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

And the hen
I like both birds..OK.. If he is heavy feathered in the tail the weight might pull it down better. I still think you should give it a shot. A judge who puts hands on can tell you what you need. You have a nice start. Good flat shoulders, nice slope, good curves..not crazy about the tails. Nice pictures of them. If you have a human scale you can use that...weigh a box, place the bird in and reweigh the box. Subtract the box weight.

I think a more accurate way might be to weigh yourself then weigh yourself holding the bird--the difference is the weight of the bird. I don't think bathroom scales are very accurate at the low ends.

I have a cheapo digital kitchen scale and teach the birds to stand still on it. Then they get a treat for being good. I didn't even think of using a box and zeroing it out. That would work a lot better for critters that do not want to be there, like my cats.

She has very feminine curves. I love her top line to just where her tail starts. It is a little too sharp of a curve..love her facial expression. She looks to have a nice beard and muffs. Nice front on her. She looks small. How much does she weigh? Love her wings. She has Ok lacing. I would use this bird in my breeding program and even show her if she is large enough.

Attempted to take pictures of my flock... They're very camera shy!

Going to try this weekend for some closeups, praying for sunny weather! Jean- your pullets are looking GREAT! Cockerels looking a bit scrappy, low on the totem pole as of now and no one has molted yet. Can't wait for them to fill out!
Bird in the foreground is one of my blues.

One of my younger roos standing tall

Not liking this boy's tail angle.

One of my prettier blues, Ester

Even though hes an EE, WHAT A LOOKER!

Two of my older pullets

My skittish but gorgeous blue girl Rosie

Black girl in front of Oswald my supposed-to-be-lavendar recessive white from Donna

I'll go weigh her. She is even lacking part of her beard and muffs because every time these guys drink water and they get their beards wet, they sit there and pluck each others beards out! Drives me crazy and it's only the 6 ameraucanas that do it.
