I just got 14 chicks yesterday. they are suppose to be Americana's. Most all have fluffy cheeks. How do I know if they are the kind with low cholesterol eggs. I got them from the feed store. They were in a water trough and did not have good bedding they have a lot of gunk on them can I give them a bath? Never had chicks before
All eggs are equal so there is little or not truth to that one..... you can adjust there feed to make them produce different quality of eggs but the birds are the same in the egg department.

You got Easter Eggers.... feed stores don't sell AmeraUcanas.

I hope they do!  I don't have any adults yet.... just juvies.  The coloring looks fine to me..... I don't raise blue Ams just black and Lavs and Wheaten/Blue Wheatens.
id love to see pics when they grow up. Thanks for the answers and your time. Im glad it looks blue. I had a blue roo over a black hen(black not bbs black) im glad they are coming out blue

So how do I know if they are Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers? Hubby bought some chickens from two different sources and was told they were Ameraucanas. I think they are Easter Eggers but I do not really know. I did put an Easter Egger roo with them from a friend.

Also we ended up with an Auracana rooster. Some how he thought it was the rooster that is supposed to go with the "Ameraucana" aka Easter Egger chicks? when I tried researching online it was confusing to me. How do Auracana figure in? They seem to be some how related to Amerauncana.

there is a good explanation on this page:

Your females are definitely Easter Eggers. They are lovely though, and should lay well for you, and give you many different color eggs.

The male is rumpless, but he doesn't look like a pure bred Araucana.

There is no reason not to breed them together, you will have great fun with the chicks and the many colors that result.

Thanks!!!!

I know he does not have the tufts which makes him unsuitable for showing but OK for breeding, maybe even desirable. What else looks wrong on him? Also I have an Easter Egger roo with the girls right now and the Auracana Rooster has a barn yard chicken and his own coop right now. Would it be more desirable to put the Auraucana with the Easter Eggers or the keep the Easter Egger roo with the Easter Egger hens? I will probably let them hatch eggs and I thought it would be more desirable to stick with one type instead of mix. Any thoughts?
