Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Yes, the babies look like lavenders. I have never seen a splash wheaten roo, so I can't really comment about him, but from the picture, there appears to be some lavender shading. Maybe this color baby is what happens when you mix a wheaten with a silver. I would think you have EE's.

Here are the 2 chicks from our rooster.

Where are you in East TN? I am between Knoxville and Asheville, NC. I will be having some hatchlings this spring from my P. Smith flock and they will be pure.

Hello. I had a few questions about my ameraucana rooster. I was told when I bought him that he was a splash wheaton ameraucana. I know thwre are strict guidelines to determine if he is an ameracana or an easter egger. Was wondering what everyone's opinion was about him and if anyone else has any roosters that may look like him. I just hatched 2 chicks from him this week so Im kinda curious about that because the chicks almost look l like lavenders. 1 of the chicks mamas is a silver ameruacana hen and the other is a dark buff easter egger and both the chicks came out a beautiful light grey. Anything that you can share qith this new, fellow ameraucana nut would great. Thanks

That does not look like a splash wheaten ameraucana. Areas that should have color do not. I was told that a splash wheaten will have white in the areas that should be blue or black. Here is a pic of a male splash wheaten.

I'm not sure what color variety he came from, maybe BBS and he is a splash showing leakage, but he should not be used for breeding. He looks like an EE, or as I said, a badly bred splash Ameraucana. Breeding him to a sliver and what you call a buff (I think it looks more like wheaten/blue wheaten) will produce EE's. That is crossing color varieties.

I am editing to say after taking a close up look at your picture, I am sure that none of those are ameraucanas. Those are EEs. Even the hens.

Do you have a BBSplash rooster, and if you do, can you post a picture. I am not sure as to how they look. I love my hens and I am just building my knowledge for when I start my hatching. Thanks.

thats awesome. you are just right down the road from me. im over in rogersville. i would love to get some pure ameraucana chicks from you. i love ameraucana's its just so hard to find "pure" ones without driving all day or spending a ton. thats very cool of you. my email is [email protected] if you want to email and we can exchange numbers and stuff. thank you for your response. that deffinetly helps me understand the whole splash rooster thing. And your rooster is beautiful. The hens in the picture are not ameraucaus. one is a buff orpington and the other is i think and austrolorp mix or something. i want able to get any pictures of them. if you cross 2 different ameraucana color varieties together...... you no longer have an ameraucana you have a mut? If thats the case if i cross a lavender with a buff orpington.... is it still an orpington?

I will email you later. I will probably have more BBS(Blue/Black/Splash) than Lavenders. I will only have three hens with the Lav roo and two of those will be black. I will not start collecting eggs to hatch before 2/15 which gets me into March hatch date.

Right there in my avatar dstokely! Here are some more though that show better. The first two are of juvenile males, then a grown male, with a pecked on beard. :( Anyway, he doesn't have a very prominent cape. The last pic of a full grown male with a prominent cape. Males vary in their "splash" of color just like females from what I have seen.
Editing to say the post flipped my pics, so pic 1 is 4, etc. Order is 4321.

I just breed Ameraucanas, but when talking about APA recognized varieties, I would think the answer would be no.
