Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Quick question...I am now the happy owner of this five month old guy....

I am searching for some girls for him...black, blues. I have lavenders growing out. Is it "acceptable" to cross a splash with a lavender since they are all the blue family? I know not to cross with wheatens...

Thanks!
I'm far from knowing much about ameraucanas but i understand that the Blue/splash genes is different that the lavender genes . They say not to cross them ..... that lavender isn't from the blue .

I think they use black bloodline(with no blue in it) with the lavender for complimenting color and splits .

I see Wheatens crossed with blue to get the blue wheaten .

Maybe some of the breeders will help out on this .

Good Luck (oh yea your rooster is beautiful)

Thanks! I did get an answer on another list. He'll have to go with my blue EE when she's old enough until I get him some blacks/blues. She's even prettier now, with a nice big beard coming in.

Here she is..I wish I knew who mom/dad were, just let her hatch under a broody.

You do not mix blue with lavenders nor do you mix blue with blue wheaten. If you do, they will be EE's as they will not breed true.

The reason they say not to mix blue with lavenders is because the offsprings are confusing for some to sort out. So black to lavender is much easier. The only reason to breed black or blue to lavender is for conformation and has nothing to do with color other than black produces lavender with black specks in their plumage.

Hello, BYC friends. I figure you could all help me out since this is an Ameraucana thread.

I had my heart set on a Blue Ameraucana. I ordered some hatching eggs, and this is what hatched out:

Are these GENUINE Blue Ameraucana? I clarified with the seller multiple times before purchasing and was told that they were TRUE BLUE Ameraucana... NOT Easter Eggers.

So I am just worrying too much over all of the blonde and brown colors that I am seeing? They don't look much like the pictures I've seen here on BYC... =(

Thank You

Can someone let me know who this bad egg is? There is someone on FB rare breeds that is advertising blue/wheaten Amerucana eggs on Ebay and I want to be sure to steer away (and have my friends steer away) from the wrong person. Thanks!
