That is exactly what I was looking for. So much easier to understand visually.

So, according to that chart a blackxsplit mating can have an impact on a BBS flock somewhere down the road. The site I looked at mislead me in their splitxblack=100%black. They must have been talking visual color not hidden genes.

not a breeder myself, but have enough sense to know those 'hidden' genes are the trouble makers farther down the road.

Like that red headed cousin I have when no one else in the family is red headed. Seems great great grandma was redheaded, go figure........

Not always easy...especially a few years ago... to get breeders to respond to buyers they are unfamiliar with. I know, because when I first tried upgrading from ee to decent breeding stock, i couldnt even get an email back in response from any of the most well known breeders.... One doesnt need to be a fool to overpay.

Agreed! Two years ago when I was looking for breeders probably 75% of my emails were ignored. I finally got a breeder in VT to sell me a couple pet quality BWAms and one juvie was sickly and was lost so we got only one 11-week-old juvenile to survive - it cost us a total of $125 (shipping was included) for two birds with only one that survived. The one that was lost had better SOP and the survivor is no way SQ (my avatar at 5 m/o) - her legs are too white but everything else about her is beautiful - especially the wonderful non-combative nature.

Thank you for this post as I had forgotten how difficult it was to get breeder replies to my Amer emails a couple years ago!

You are not that far from me if you ever want to add some more W/BW Ameraucanas to your flock. I have been working on mine for 3+ years and they are looking pretty good. I am adding some new bloodlines this year, so that will probably set me back some. Now if I can break all the broody hens I can continue to fill those orders!

TY chickee - in the few posts I've come across the most favourable have been re the W/BW Amers.

We waited 6 mo for our special order of a BlueAm and a Blue Breda (juvies/adults). If the Breda turns out to be a roo (I'm not certain yet because it wails out a few crows every morning) I may just go for another Amer. At least a friend rescues unwanted roos on their open range property and a roo will have a good forever home! We love the Breda for the wonderful temperament but the crows are "suspicious" and from a breeder that bragged knowing rare breeds and chickens for many years - LOL.

Our BWAm never went broody in the 2 yrs we've had her and she can't exit the nestbox fast enough after dropping her eggs! LOL but I guess you never know when a "non-broody" breed can be broody. We once had a Buff Leghorn that went broody which surprised the heck out of us!

Okay, so a few have mentioned how hard it is to get good stock even when you're desperately trying to get breeders to respond. It took me forever to find an Ameraucana breeder who would reply to me - any ideas why this is the case? I have not found this to be the case in the past with other breeds.

I have pictures of her when she was 4 and 1/2 - 5 months old ( the three ones below) I'll take more pictures if these don't help? Thanks for all your help everyone! I have never had chickens till this spring and i don't know much about Ameraucana's all you can tell me is great!!! :)
She looks just like mine! Mine is SO personal and loves human attention. She loves being held and often falls asleep while holding her. Contrary to everyone's belief, she has never pooped on me lol

Okiecritters.com will respond ASAP. Penney is great!

I have one that will climb right up in my lap once she gives me enough time to settle in. As for not being pooped on......well........at least I had on rubber boots and it didn't happen in my lap, LOL
