Anyone planning on going to the Low Country Classic in Blackville, SC, Dec 5th? It is a double show and should have some nice entries.
I have two BWs and a splash that will be 6 months 11/29. I have not been expecting anything, especially since my other AM hens are not laying. I have one Splash wheaten that is laying consistently, but she is in a different pen with more sun. I do think my problem is not enough light. I have timers that run from 5AM - 8AM and 5PM until 8PM. But, with the fall and winter sun pattern, it does not shine into their pens very much. I figure I will be waiting until Spring.
Need better pictures of the combs, but the last two pics look like cockerels. In the middle picture the two on the left and in the last pic the one you are holding. At this age you should be able to look for saddle feathers. They are not obvious in pictures but if you start lifting the feathers on the back of the bird in the area in front of the tail you may see some feathers coming out that look pointy instead of rounded. If they have pointy feathers coming out on their backs, you have cockerels. Some Ameraucana males have small pea combs, so it can be hard to tell from that, but since it takes awhile for pullets to lay and those pics show some really pink combs at this age, I'm thinking they may be male. If you could take pics of all the combs or just look for the bird whose comb looks smaller and different, that should help you.
This was in answer to MrsBachbach. I seem to be having a little trouble with this new change. Obviously, my browser does not like it. I could not figure out how to edit my previous post.I was just thinking yesterday, that I needed to get pictures. The two hens are beautiful. Hopefully, I can get some this week and post.
