Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

If I bought them from a feed store... They're probably not pure- are they? Also, what's the difference between EEs and Ameracaunas? Sorry. New to them.
Ameraucana are a recognized breed, with specific traits. Easter Eggers are not a 'breed' but a type of chicken. They have been bred randomly by hatcheries purely for egg laying. No other specific traits have been selected for. Therefore, there is no telling what your Easter Egger chicks will grow up to look like or even know what color egg a pullet will lay.
With true Ameraucana, you know exactly what you are getting, and they are always sold with a color variety specified.

And now I envision Carol Burnett coming down the stairs wearing the draperies complete with rod ;)

Looking healthy!

Where is the Mama Heating Pad brooder cave?

I don't know if that set up is temporary or not, but you should never use newspaper, or a white light bulb. Using newspaper = bad absorption and the chicks can develop splayed feet. For a white lamp if any chick has an injury or just red/blood on it, the other chicks could peck at it and even kill it.

I'm sure it is temporary. The person that received these chicks has raised plenty.

Oz just sent me a picture of a 3 week old blue I sold him. Check out this dark color

I know you are more than well versed in both but I would disagree with "No other specific traits have been selected for." EEs from the big hatcheries typically have muffs and beards and are planned to lay blue or green. No guarantees of course, they may not have beards and muffs and may lay any natural color of egg since the breeding stock at a given big hatchery isn't necessarily carefully managed for the beard, muff and blue egg gene. And if you breed your EEs, you have no idea what you will get with regard to those traits.
