Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I've personally only had one experience with a true ameraucana rooster being aggressive. It only took once to convince him he wasn't in charge.

I often see my boys in the nest box with their ladies.

ohhh i can't wait , i think i made a good choice for a breed for 4-H and i am also getting blue orp eggs. But i will be showing BW ameraucanas

Can anybody help me out with the beard thing? I think I've asked like 3 times and don't recall getting an answer. 2 of my pullets- almost 4 months old- that have very sparse beards. Almost non-existent. Will they fill out later, or are these 2 destined for the olive-egger pen?

HappyMt,
I believe that questions was asked and answered on the Ameraucana Breeders Site. I believe they said those birds like that are only carrying one gene for the beard trait. Please, don't take this in context it would be best for you to research that site, I can not say that is what is exactly said. IF so and you have better hens put them in the EE pen and use the better hens. IF they are your only hens then you will have to use what you got and keep better pullets from then next generation.
Perhaps Pips&Peeps will enlighten you with your situation.

HappyMtn,

They sometimes go through an ugly duckling stage and can appear totally beardless and muffless. I find it is best to wait until they are a little older to determine if they are clean faced or lightly muffed and bearded.

If you have some pictures, that would be great. I have had a clean faced bird pop out every once in a while. poo poo happens

Amy's in question came from the same flock and I believe same hatch-she got some of mine as little chicks..as this roo of mine..I don't like his beard at all or lack of..my pullets are beautiful and his color is real nice but..I'm not giving up on him since most of my Ameraucana culls can move to my EE pen but loosing hope for him as my Blue Wheaten roo.He hatched I believe the first week in Dec..just started crowing the other day.

That is definately a clean faced cockerel. Don't use him.

I still have the pullets. I've been cleaning the coops again and am getting ready for the show next week. My kids are also home tomorrow and only go 1/2 days to school next week. I look kind of llike this
