So, I bought a couple of chicks from Chicknstalker as did a couple of friends. Lavenders. Not one of us got a pullet and two of us have roos with single combs or a combo of pea n single. Well I like the one roo and posted the other on craigs but no one wants him. Anyhow what to do with a lav roo and no hen? I have a nice red headed EE and she has nice whiskers. Should I cross him with her? I also have what looks to be a lavender EE. She's young but should I cross him with her?

I do intend to cross him with my frizzle (red/blk/blue) who seems to throw chicks that pattern after the father. Maybe she'll throw a lavender friz. She's a bantam.

Any ideas?

Ohh lavender frizzle would be pretty cool looking. That batch I hatched out must have been 75% roosters because the two chicks I kept, I got one of each and another person I sold some to also got one of each. So out of eight lav chicks only 2 were pullets? What happened to 50/50. Unfortunately my lav rooster was killed so I don't even have a lav roo now. About a month ago I sold a lav hen and split lav hen (I think she was the one throwing the straight comb gene). My order from John Blehm fell through also because his hatches weren't very good but I should get some spring next year. So I guess lavs are now on the hard to find list for this year....at least in NY

Hope you find something.

yes you will get lav splits (they will appear blue or black but carry the lavender gene) then you mate the splits together to get lavender babies!!!

Yes- I got some really nice pair of blacks, and what looked like a pair of splits (but 2 roos) that I'm going to be crossing with my lavs to make more splits- but most importantly improve egg color & type.

So....I still have an extra split roo if anyone wants him, and I'm sure I'll have a couple/ few lav roos soon as well.
