Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi all! Out of the 4 Ameraucana chickens I purchased earlier this year, only 1 turned out to be a hen

She is a gorgeous blue and we kept 1 awesome black roo. She is now almost 22 weeks old and has not laid an egg. So I thought I'd come ask the experts if it's still too early.

Thanks!
Trish

Those are some nice looking birds and they have great size! Who's flock did they come from or did you breed them yourself???

These are my 4th generation, no outcrosses yet. When I first got them, many were scrawny and laid small eggs. I hate scrawny chickens, so have primarily selected for larger, thicker birds and hens that laid larger eggs. The first couple generations, I culled 90% of each group I grew for myself. The last generation I've been able to pay more attention to combs, shape and color. My cull percentage has fallen significantly. I do somehow manage to get an occasional hen that lays a pink egg, so for now they're just Easter Eggers, I guess.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.

Sorry, I won't be going. The older generation has been molting, so I'm not even getting many eggs right now. I have a couple chick orders I'm trying to fill and not sure how they'd be laying after that or if anyone would want to try to raise chicks in a New York winter.
