Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Illia, I posted picks a while back of my white "Splash Wheaten" boy. He looks JUST like yours. Jean said that the Ameraucana club is looking into a few other identical occurrences out of a few different breeders. I've heard that there is a thread about it over at the Ameraucana breeders club web site, but I couldn't find it when I looked.

Does your white " wheaton " have a crooked toe ? I can't help wondering if someone bred their wheatons off recessive whites , but can't imagine why if so . It would be interesting to breed the crops-outs to both their siblings and recessive whites to test the genetics behind them .

ETA : Forgot to post this link back to the other white wheatons . https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4340293

He does have a crooked toe - It was from his hatching going wrong. He got shrink-wrapped, and so he had a lot of body parts attached to one another that I very carefully tried peeling off with warm water. Eventually all went through, but his toe didn't quite.

Well, I am indeed going to breed him to the girls, both wheaten and blue wheaten, to see what I get. Don't have any rec Whites to test though.

If you do a search for white wheaton on the ABC board there's an old post where someone was using a white roo on a wheaton hen in an attempt to get more whites . I"ll post a link here and check the rules , may have to edit it out if its breaking rules .

: I'll leave it as I believe its within the guide lines , but will not be upset if a moderator finds differently .

A couple of my 8week old girls...

Hello,
I am pretty new to this. My husband and I are raising 6 what we believe to be Ameraucana's. We used to have 9 other hens until a coyote came and took them away

I am still not over it, we used to let them free range which I loved for them to do, but now we do not. We built another large coop and are still working on the yard, but for now the 6 we have left are in our smaller coop/yard so they are safe. I need some help though, because we have a weird senario going on and wanted to know if any of you can share some infput. I am going to to try and post some pictures so it will help.

So what the problem is is this:
As you can tell from my above pictures ( sorry did not know how to type under each one.) We have one obvious rooster, all of these chickens are about 5 months old. The rooster is not crowing yet or anything which I was not alarmed about until I realized the crowing is coming from our hen, she is the hen that is about the same color as the rooster, but she does not have a wattle, is not starting to develop spurs or anything. Every morning when I let them out in their yard she crows and crows. She is dominant with all the other hens and very aggessive with them. She is mellow with the rooster and the rooster does not act dominant at all. Is there a gender identity crisis here? Not sure what to make of this. Also one more question? When should they start laying? And does anyone think these are Ameracaunas? We hatched these in April and they came from a friend who has what I call a mix of breeds. Thanks for any help you can give!

You have some very nice Easter Eggers there...not true Ameraucanas though...

And if the "hen" you are referring to is the bird in the 3rd pic, it's a rooster.

He's too young to be developing spurs yet. They will probably start laying in the next month to six weeks or so.

I have to agree Marilyn. The red bird with the pea comb is a roo, as well as the single combed one. The pea-combed one is more likely to carry the blue/green egg gene, so if you want to use one for breeding chicks later on- use him.

Ok someone help and shed some light here....I'm a newbie and bought these two 4 month old (What I was told) Blue Ameraucanas, Are they or are they EE's. Lost and confused? New to all the lingo.

LuvmyPeeps - That's a real Ameraucana.

Look for 1) a true color recognized by the ABC, in this case blue, and 2) for slate legs - basically a blueish grey color.

Marilyn - Sorry, those are EEs. And it looks like a bunch of boys, too.
