Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The parents were pure Weatons from John Blehm stock. But I am new to this breed so any advise or opinions is appreciated. I will post more picks as the weeks go on.

In retrospect , I realize my post questions the purity of your chick , which was not my intent . I apologize to you for my thoughtless choice of words .

Determining blues, blacks, and splashes...I seem to be having difficulties determining if my Ameraucana roos are blues or splashes. Looked through tons of photos online, and I assumed they were splash because their beards and undersides are so light (almost white) rather than a blue/gray color. However, I thought the offspring of one of these splash (?) roos and a blue hen might be a black roo, which is obviously impossible. So, just to confirm...these photos are of my roos, and both these roos were also blonde chicks at hatching. Are they splash or blue??

*the tint of this photo is a bit blue in general, but you can see the mottling on his breast, which shouldn't be if he were a blue, right?

I have some other photos that I haven't uploaded, yet, but I can do that, if you need to see them.

First is definitely a splash, second is likely a splash. Nice birds, especially the muffs/beards!!

Today one of my black Ameraucanas became the first victims ever (of our whole flock) to a predator attack. . . Had a bobcat come barreling through the pasture right before sunset, right in front of my eyes. To my absolute luck and shock, after chasing that bobcat a few hundred feet down the pasture, it finally let go of the hen and took off into the woods. Next time I see it, it's dead.

The hen is alive though, and although she has serious wounds I'm a little guilty to say, I'm glad she's one of my poor quality "layer" girls and not someone of great importance. She's still a beloved hen, but I'm very glad she wasn't taken and she wasn't a breeder.

They both appear to be splash blue , but with red or gold bleed . I suppose its possible the second picture might be blue with some kind of mottled pattern goin' on , but believe its probably a splash .

Sorry about that Illia. Even though they aren't good layers or such, they are still yours and you (at least I don't) don't want something that is not doing you any good to have it. Go for the cat.
