Yesterday I noticed something. I had let my Buffs out to free range and I had just given them some scraps and my Lavender guineas came over there and the color Lavender and Buff look great together!! That makes me want Lavender Orpingtons...

I'm planning on hatching a dozen Blue/Lavender Orp eggs from bargain. There are a lot of people on here doing projects with them, though I'm not sure if they all are still. However, I am only using them for egg production. I plan on the Orps being my main laying flock.

My orpingtons are so gentle. Even my big boy Bill Boy is a sweet "little" guy. He comes and checks my hands for treats.

They don't ever wonder far the the house either, the farthest they ever go is on the flat. Plus they're pretty good layers. I got 8 eggs from them yesterday. I set 6 of them the other day. Hopeing to have pure BO's soon.

I don't know, anymore, if I have Ameraucanas or not

I bought 4 chicks last spring from a gal who shows her chickens. Wish I would have investigated the breed more. Ended up with 3 roos 1 hen. I kept the blue hen and black roo (now I wish I would have kept one of the bluer roos).

So, I hatched eggs from the black roo and blue hen and have these sweet little things....gonna be all black I guess except for 1 that's a little lighter.

They look like Ameraucanas to me, but I'm no expert.

They're super cute!

Thank you! Out of 6 eggs, 6 hatched so I feel good about that! We aren't keeping our roo, Carlos, very much longer because he became a very people-aggressive guy. My DH will only put up with a bloody leg for so long and I don't blame him. Even though my girl doesn't lay blue eggs, I'm learning to be okay with that and the fact that her offspring will not lay those amazingly-wonderful blue eggs. The eggs are still edible (they are just pets for eggs) and my Gabby-girl hen is sweet. My DH is not an enabler

and I have very limited coop space. Can't have more than a few.

I read and watch BYC with yearning and am trying to get my chickens-of-all-kinds 'fix' from reading everyone's stories! Oh how I would love a couple Ameraucana's in every color! Keep posting pictures for people like me who have to settle for looking! I am blessed by what I have!!!

really enjoying these

Gosh, being in PA you have great resources close to you for true Ameraucanas. You should be able to get Lavendars easy enough & black splits.
