Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hard to say from just those two photos. I really don't like the comb on the first male shown, but that's me. A comb too tall often points to heterozygous pea comb, that, or it just points to the opposite of what one wants in a pea comb shape and size.

Otherwise, they look fine from the third photo. A few look a tad beat up around the muffs/beard, and a couple have narrow looking tail spread, but I can't judge from just one group shot.

I agree on the comb. I knew that needed work. They are a little wet and muddy from all the rain lately. I think that may be the problem with muffs. Not sure what you mean about tail spread?
Is his color ok? I think he is beautiful but I wasn't sure if the green sheen is acceptable.
What feature should I concentrate on photographing?

Far as I know, the green sheen is completely acceptable.

The only colors it isn't wanted as much are colors like Brown-Red. Too much and you reduce the color in the female's necks.

Tail spread. . . The female on the far left has a tail that looks more like a clump of feathers coming out of her rear, not a nice fan. An Ameraucana's tail should be well spread, not pinched at all.

How old are your boys? From the looks of the photo I'm guessing between 8-11 months old?

I don't think they'd be disappointed at all. Unless you've seen that they pass on clean faced chicks (which from the looks of it, they likely won't, have you done test matings yet?) and unless they lay green eggs that's mostly what counts with people. As for show vs breeder quality, as said before, it is hard to say from the photos, plus I've too little show experience to be the one to tell you. Your best bet is to show them to find out.

(And, in a show big enough to compete against other Ameraucanas)
