Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The first pic could be, but could be a d'anver too. The second pictures is not ameraucana.

The best thing to do is ask them lots of questions if you are interested in them.

ETA: The wing carriage is a little low on the blacks.

Ask them where they got them or if they bred them. If they bred them ask them how long the have bred ameraucana.

Find out how old they are, if they females are currently laying. What color eggs they are producing. Have they ever been sick? Have they been vaccinated for anything...etc.

I am loving this roo- hope that when he comes out of quarantine we'll have some good eggs again. His blue is different than my other BWs- he's more "smokey", but I like it! He's still a bit freaked out by me though- hence the strange pics.

He's got clean hackles!!! Maybe the smokey color is just sun damage. Was he from a sunny area????

With his offspring make sure to keep and eye out on the beards and muffs on the males keeping them dark.

I just wanted to point it out to you because I had such tunnel vision when I was working on cleaning up the hackles in my flock.

I KNOW! I love the hackles. I had 2 BW boys in this bunch and he was the darker one. They did free range daily- sun and shade- but he's always been a different blue. From your stock

He's very handsome Amy!

Speaking to breeding for clean hackles... what did you find was the best method Jean? It's something that I'm going to have to deal with this year when culling the chicks produced by my Claude. He has striping, mostly in his lower hackles but it's there.

It's obviously much easier to tell if your roo is contributing to the striping but what should you look for in your hens to know if they will throw the black markings too? Black or blue flecking in the hackles?
