Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Here is my black ameracauna's egg that started laying this month. It took a year, yes a year before she would lay shame I don't have a roo yet. Trying to post pic, but haven't figured how yet.

Anyone? Is this the right thread to post this question? I'll come back in a little while. Thank you!

hi and

I don't show, I just know what I like

. He looks nice to me except I like my combs tighter. I tend to cull the bigger combed boys, I like a nice tight low profile comb, but that is personal preference

His tail carriage is a bit high and what many of us are still working on is: the beard needs to be completely black and the hackles are supposed to have no ticking.

He should weigh 6 1/2 lbs.

Jean, by what age is the beard "supposed" to be it's permanent color? I know mine too a while to lose the chick fuzz....

I give mine until about 10 months, mine take forever to grow out. I wouldn't cull any young cockerels for black in the hackles until they are pushing 20 weeks either.

What about pullets with black in the hackles Jean?

I have a few from Paul Smith that have some black striping and a few with minimal ticking, how long should I wait before rehoming these girls?

Not to interrupt the current discussion, but just an fyi....I have an auction up for black/blue LF eggs. Girls from Wayne Meredith and pips&peeps, blue boy from Ilia ("Poseidon")....

To ship Tuesday.

pips&peeps :

wait until they are almost 20 weeks, they are constantly growing adult plumage

Good. I was hoping you wouldn't say cull now.
