The British refer to this color as "Mauve" or "Mauve Laced", it's a double dilution of Black. It happens when a bird has a copy of the Andalusian (Laced) Blue and Chocolate gene, not Lavender/Self Blue.

I'm unsure what Lavender/Self Blue would do to Chocolate.

I personally think the "Mauve" birds are gorgeous and definitely plan on making some when I acquire some Chocolates. I feel like they need a better name though as they don't really look mauve colored to me.

That is an interesting color pattern. I don't think it looks like mauve, either, but I'm not sure what I would call it. Almond, maybe? Those aren't ameraucanas. What breed are they? They sure are pretty.

pips&peeps :

So........ let's start another topic on ameraucanas.

I am going to start brainstorming to put together a couple gift baskets for the winners at Nationals. Anyone have any ideas except for goodies??? Remember, these have to make a journey in a car for a couple days from WA to IN.

(If it's edible, it might not make it...

Thanks,

Where is the nationals being held at this year? If memory serves, it was at the Bluegrass Poultry Association's show in Frankfort KY last year? I believe they said it was the Nationals for the Ams, but not 100% sure. There certainly were lots of Ams at that show!

I know I had no problems getting the judge who didn't place my (to me) gorgeous OEGB cockerel to explain why to me. Darn dark splashes got him knocked out of the running

The judge himself said if the cockerel hadn't been so dark he would have been #1

Oh well...

My chocolate muscovys look like that this time of year after the sun has had time to wash out the color. Exactly like that. I would like to see pics of them before summer and after summer with full sun. If they start out that color, they may not be very attractive after a good dose of sunlight.

Almond would be good. Or "dust bunny" lol. They are gorgeous orps though. So fluf-fay!

I have to go find the chocolate pics now....
