Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

There are different varieties that are parti colored, such as Wheatan, Blue Wheatan, Silver, and Brown red.

Thank you, I wasn't aware of that. No wonder it's confusing! They can be any color but if they have yellow feet they're not Ameraucanas. I feel for people attempting to breed them, that must be a nightmare at times.

Not if you have them breeding true, the leg color and feather color will stay the same for the most part.
Look here to see the different varieties http://ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html

Its the same thing as breding Orpingtons or Rocks or Silkies or any other breed. Certain colors are accepted, certain ones aren't. They cannot be just any color.

Most folks who are interested in knowledge do research and study to gain knowledge. Most people here on BYC are interested in helping people learn and will answer questions freely. But basic question get asked repeatedly and frequently. I admit that I have asked some basic questions some time back, but in the meantime have taken the time to read, read and read some more. And that is what is required to truly own the knowledge.

Thanks.... I fell into some good luck getting some GREAT Ameraucanas. I just got some Blacks, Lav AM direct from Shaffer Eggs, a Lav Split, then I hatched some Lav Splits from these birds and got three little chickies from Happy. I also got some W/BW Ams too. I am not keeping them all, but most and I am going to hatch till then

Got to study now, to get the AM's info in my head more so I can do as good a job as I can breeding the BEAUTIFUL birds! BTW so far great egg color for the Blacks and Lavs laying.

A splash rooster will get 100% splash chicks with the splash hens and 50% blue, 50% splash with the blue hens. A black rooster will give you 100% blue with the splash hens and 50% blue, 50% black with the blue hens. A blue rooster will give you 50% blue, 50% splash with the splash hens and 50% blue, 25% splash, and 25% black with the blue hens. So I guess the question you need to think about is what color you want the most of running around if you hatch out their eggs. Also, keep in mind that most breeders seem to agree that splash to splash matings usually result in a "washed out" more white splash offspring and the best splashes come from eggs where at least one of the parents was blue.
