More babies 2 lavs and 4 lav/splits

Both look like lavs with darker legs. They are still in the hatcher.

Ok, question... I have 4 Lav hens that were born last April. No eggs from any yet. FREELOADERS. Been cold and dark here lately... (Maine). Lately I have caught one of them(same one I know because her comb is redder than the others) in the nest box. She will stay in there for some time but when she leaves, nothing :( Is it common for them to stake out a nest box prior to begin laying? I have never noticed any of my other breeds doing this.
Thanks,
Steve

Oh nooo Steve- they must have caught it from the wheatens!

Do they get out during the day, or have a southern-facing window? I dont' have any artificial light and mine are laying up a storm- and they hatched after yours. You might want to try a light just to add an hour a da (for a week) and see if it helps.
They do like to practice in the boxes- especially with fresh hay. Won't be long, I bet.

The girl looks like what I've got! I wonder if the blue glow of the snow is playing tricks on me though....
Do you have pics of her as a chick?

I just got her about a week ago so I'm not sure what she looked like as a chick. I'd get Jean to take a look at your chick picture, I'm just beginning my foray into Silver and Blue Silver :)

Yes. They get out during the day and have Southern facing window. I will be patient. I'd rather not supply artificial light - let mother nature dictate things. Thanks... Why? Are Wheatens really bad about laying late?

ETA: By the way Amy, an f2 OE I have from you is one of my best, most consistent layer - almost daily - even through these winter months!

Mostly grower, although they have access to some layer feed as well. I have both out because I have mixed layers/non-layers. Some scratch and BOSS. Some scraps from the house, mostly bread crusts that my kids don't eat... Lots of FRESH water.

ETA: I don't think it's their diet because all the others are doing well and they seem fine otherwise...

Jean, as you know, I'm about the farthest thing from a geneticist as one can get but thought I'd suggest going here: kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html and playing with the various genes. I remember the chicken in the pic will change color as you select different genes and I think it was the Champayne Blonde gene that would make your Wheaten roo look that way.

Also, I apologize in advance if you've already got the info you're looking for. Power went out yesterday due to snowstorm and I'm about a half dozen pages behind.

God Bless,
