Congrats on the eggs everybody! It seems like it takes forever. I know!

In other news- not only do we have wheatOn ameraucanas, but there is a new variety- lavendAr!

Got my first Ameraucana egg this evening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DH found it when he was closing up for the night.
It has no shell though, just the membrane. I hope it has a shell on it next time.

It's the little one on the left next to the regular-sized OE.

Woohooo!!!! That is so awesome! I am sure the next egg will have a shell.
I confirmed today that I have a wheaten and a BBS laying. Two eggs in one day! They are the cutest little turquoise eggs.. I have them on my counter in a dish. I am so proud of my lil' girls. I have three more BBS pullets from DipsyDoodleDoo that are a couple months behind my first hatch from Lisa. I ordered eggs twice from her cuz they were my best hatches ever!

Anyone know what color these ameraucana chicks are? I have 3 that look exactly the same.

Non standard or easter egger.Looks striped with something covering it up.Black or red involved.Knowing the color of the parents would help.Silver is the only variety in the standard with striped chick color.

I just started with blue black and splash. I was amazed at the size of the eggs they lay much larger than my wyandottes.
I will have my first hatch Feb 28th can't wait. Would love to get some more to go with the five I have now, or the three blacks that are still growing up. Maybe lavenders for the blks. Love the thread!!!!

People call asking about buying Ameraucanas. You say, yes I have eggs
hatching in 2 weeks how many are you looking for? One lady said she wanted 25 sexed hens.

I think people expect "breeders" to be hatcheries.

Am I out of touch or do real "breeders" (not hatcheries) really sell sexed chicks in large quantity like that?

No- I have a disclaimer on our farm site that we are NOT a hatchery, and it would be an incredible burden for us to grow out all those roosters. That's one reason why its so difficult ot get started in this breed, but I think its worth the trouble. Not every roo is good enough to want to use, as a "pure" breeder anyway. I still give them away to people that just want to make EEs or OEs with their hatchery girls.
I got all excited when I got a message last year- somebody wanting 100 marans chicks. Then I got to the end of the message

ummmmm, I think I'd tell her if she wants sexed chicks she should buy from a hatchery. If she wants better quality chicks then buy from a breeder and take her chances (straight run). I do realize some breeds can be sexed right away, just depends on what breeds you have and what she wants.

I had a older lady buy a roo from me a while back, she had hens but no roo. After she had him on her place she told me she wanted him so she could have eggs ?!?!?! Ya never know what people are thinking. LOL
