What is the most sought out color?
I'm looking into becoming a breeder and will be buying show quality stock(hopefully). I'm looking right now to buy from the Ameraucana breeders club and hopefully becoming a member myself in the next year or so. I'm going to do my research first before I go ahead sell. I do have 12 eggs I got here locally from Paul Smith's(in Texas) stock in my incubator. I'm not sure how many will hatch though. I bought another 6 off of eBay, 5 are looking really good in development. Both sets of eggs are a nice blue. I won't be breeding any of these unless the hens I keep are show quality. I'm praying I can successfully hatch these eggs.

When I start selling, I will have all my stock NPIP tested. There's a place not too far from where I live that does the testing.

When you ask a question like that it "puts off" the serious breeders. You sound like you are just going to breed the birds to make a profit.

But to answer the question, it all depends on what the "trends" are and what certain people are looking for. With chickens the market can change as the wind blows.

I believe Madelynbelle got her birds from me last fall.

That's why they are so blue!! Just gorgeous. They have a sheen to them that brings out the color.

Got 2 new eggs from 2 wheaten ameraucana girls. I was not expecting them to lay at 21 weeks and did not even have a nest box for them. Imagine my surprise when I saw the eggs laying in a corner of the grow-out coop. I can't match the color on the ABC chart. They sure are pretty.

So pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been thinking of adding another variety. I feel like Blue Wheaten has quite a few breeders working with that variety. I am unsure which way to go. I like white....................................My lacing project is not going so well. The Blue Andalusians that I hatched out: the pullets are really small, and the cockerels have RED leakage. That fact automatically means I am culling the hens to. I will not grow them out, it doesn't matter how big they get, I don't want the red leakage going into my project. I am going to go the route Jean is going. I know she is a smart lady, I going to try Orpingtons. That helped the buffs, and helped to start the Lavs and Choc., so that is what I am going to try. In fact I am in love with Jeans X Blue rooster!!!!!!!!!! I drool over him when I think of the pic. I will have to go find it so I can look at it again.

Oh, I had no idea. It's for hobby and therapeutic reasons. I broke my neck a few years ago and suffer from severe pain. Owning chickens has changed my life literally! I absolutely love them!

I want to do everything right. This means right down to having them NPIP tested. My kids want to show them, but I can never help them show due to my disability. Not being for my kids breaks my heart too.

If I were just trying to make a buck, I'd never go through this trouble. We spend a lot of money keeping our pet chickens. I buy wheat, oats, grains, alfalfa, ect... It gets expensive. I sprout all year round for greens, especially in the winter. I take really good care of my flock. . I want to be another breeder with a really good bloodlines, not just any bird.

I don't want to just by any pure bred and sell eggs. I want the best of the best for other people to have the opportunity to show. If I came across that way I'm really sorry.

I feel really bad, I'd take back my post if I could. It's my goal to be a serious breeder as well and I want to do it right.

Generally we only have an egg contest at the Nationals. It will be in Sedalia this year.

Just the way it was asked, like I said it appears (which is not generally the case and written word is hard to decipher sometimes) that you are asking "Which variety can I make the most money on?"

Which variety you want will depend on all you want to do. Most show breeders will tell you to go with the solid birds like white, black, or buff. If you would like a challenge, you could breed some of the lesser known varieties like the silver or brown red. If you want the most sociable birds, the whites, buffs, wheatens and blue wheatens are the route to go. It is really up to you knowing what and where and why you want the birds. Each variety has it's own personality and issues.
